On the outskirts of Riyadh, we embarked on a journey to create a 12,500sqm private residence for an art collector and his burgeoning family. This villa, an ode to contemporary living, seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, ushering in an environment of leisure and social grace. It also stands as a canvas for our client's awe-inspiring art collection and a nurturing cocoon for their family to ourish within. Our clients, driven by a vision of harmonising luxury and tradition, sought to create their dream oasis within a desert landscape. They yearned for a home that encapsulated the essence of both Arabic heritage and 21st-century opulence. The challenge lay in melding these elements into a cohesive whole that would endure the harsh desert climate. Our task was clear: to conjure a dwelling that would redene the standards of excellence in this region. The design centres on a profound appreciation of the interplay between past and present. Drawing inspiration from traditional Arabic architecture, we wove elements like courtyards, screens, and framed vistas into our design narrative. These served as the backbone of our approach, seamlessly fused with contemporary sensibilities. By embracing these time-honoured design principles, we harnessed their power to mitigate the desert's extreme temperatures while crafting a sanctuary that epitomises 21st-century luxury living. We meticulously curated materials, embracing those that could withstand the relentless desert sun and the test of time. These materials, from stone to wood, became the building blocks of our vision, enriching the villa's character. Their craftmanship gave life to our design, ensuring every facet of the villa exudes a sense of purpose and beauty. Central to our ethos was the imperative to harmonise our creation with its natural surroundings. Sustainability is not a buzzword but a silent commitment that permeates our design. Our villa boasts passive cooling strategies and green energy solutions that reduce energy consumption, thus lessening our ecological footprint.
